  • Sleeperz appoints management team for Newcastle hotel

    (Newcastle, November 17 – 2011) Sleeperz Hotels, the innovative budget hotel business, has announced the appointment of a management team for its soon to open Newcastle property.

    Mark Armstrong has been named as general manager and brings with him 23 years experience in the hospitality industry, including time spent managing both The Staybridge Suites and The Caledonian Hotel in Newcastle.

    Deborah Parkinson, of Denton Burn Newcastle, has been hired as sales manager. She joins with 11 years experience in the hotel industry having worked her way up from receptionist to a general manager position with Premier Inn Hotels in Newcastle.

    Construction is well underway on the 98-bedroom, six storey hotel situated on the site of the former Parcel Works on Newcastle’s Westgate Road near Central Station. The hotel is scheduled to open in January.

    Mark Armstrong said:

    “This is a dynamic time for the hospitality industry in Newcastle and the North East. Sleeperz is bringing a completely new premium budget hotel product to the region and I’m excited about building a successful team, providing great service and building a first class reputation for the hotel.”

    Mark, originally from Northern Ireland, started his hospitality career in Australia. He trained on the management development programme at the five-star Sheraton Sydney Airport Hotel. He moved to Newcastle in 2005 as general manager at The Caledonian Hotel.

    Mark will oversee the recruitment and development of 25 staff at Sleeperz Newcastle and manage the hotel’s daily operations.
    In his spare time, he likes to stay fit and runs two International Marathons every year.

    Deborah will be responsible for developing the hotel’s profile within the corporate market and attracting bookings for meetings, conferences and business travel.

    “This is a great opportunity to develop my career by helping grow a new and exciting budget hotel brand. The hotel is already looking superb and we are all looking forward to putting Sleeperz Hotels on the map in the North of England,”

    The development is Sleeperz second UK hotel and follows around £7m of investment in the Sleeperz brand and the opening of its Cardiff property in November 2008.

    The company has plans to expand and has earmarked major UK cities, including Liverpool, Manchester and London as potential venues for hotels in the next phase of development.

  • Sleeperz Hotels expands in dynamic budget hotel sector

    (London, November 17 – 2011) Sleeperz Hotels, the innovative budget hotels business, is expanding by creating a new niche in the UK’s fast growing budget hotel sector.

    Sleeperz Hotels opens its second UK hotel in Newcastle in January and aims to set its design-led premium budget hotels apart from market leaders Travelodge, Premier Inn and Holiday Express.

    The opening of the 98-bedroom hotel near Newcastle’s Central Rail station follows Sleeperz Cardiff, which opened in the Welsh capital in November 2008.
