    The popular and growing trend in hotel customers reviewing their stay using online travel websites and booking engines is proving to be a make or break factor for businesses operating in the hospitality industry.

    Sleeperz entered the budget hotel sector in November 2008 when it opened its first hotel in the Welsh capital Cardiff. It recorded average occupancy figures of 66% for its first year, well above the city and national averages.

    Mark Armstrong, general manager of Sleeperz Newcastle, said: “We have easily exceeded the occupancy and sales targets we set for ourselves for the first quarter and have found that we are regularly fully booked on weekends.

    A lot of this success has been due to internet bookings and positive reviews but it all comes back to a simple truth, did the customer like the hotel and enjoy their stay.”

  • Sleeperz Hotels open for business in Newcastle

    Sleeperz create design-led premium budget hotel in North East capital

    (Newcastle, January 30 – 2012) Sleeperz Hotels, the innovative budget hotel business, opened its second UK hotel in Newcastle city centre last week.

    The 98-bedroom, six storey hotel welcomed its first guests to the Westgate Road property on Tuesday, less than two minutes walk from Newcastle’s Central Station.

    The hotel development has created 25 full time jobs in the North East economy.

    The hotel has been built on the site of a former derelict Parcel Works and is the first premium budget design-led hotel in the North East’s capital.

    Newcastle’s glass fronted hotel has compact rooms with fresh, colourful and contemporary interiors perfect for both business and leisure travelers.

    Wet rooms have under floor heating and steam proof mirrors and rates start from £60 including free wi-fi access and local telephone calls.

    David Myers said: “Newcastle is not just the capital of North East England; it’s a thriving visitor destination and a great city for business and conferences.”

    Newcastle’s hotel sector is among the highest performing of any UK city, according to the latest figures from destination marketing agency NewcastleGateshead Initiative and national tourist board Visit England.

    Average room occupancy for hotels in Newcastle is 78 per cent compared to a national average of 65 per cent according to Visit England.

    The company has plans to expand and Sleeperz has earmarked major UK cities, including Liverpool, Manchester and London as potential venues for hotels in the next phase of development.

    Sleeperz Hotels is a new and innovative UK budget hotels business.

  • Cycling enthusiast Javeed Anwar is Head of Marketing & Sales at Sleeperz Hotel, Cardiff

    I first started cycling when I moved from London to the Chilterns – mainly mountain biking initially and it proved a great way to get fit and get to know the area a bit better – I soon became hooked.

    This was in the late 1990s and I quickly progressed from local routes to the longer rides that were being organised by my local bike shop.

    When Sleeperz opened three years ago and I started spending half of each week in Cardiff, it was another great chance for me to explore new routes and the beautiful Welsh countryside – there are some fantastic cycling trails to be discovered.

    In the last three years, it’s become a serious hobby and a couple of years ago I progressed to road riding, which has taken my commitment to the sport to another level.
    I get so much from this hobby and every ride is a whole new challenge – the aim of which is to push myself as hard as I can.

    I’ve now completed several hugely demanding (some would say punishing!) Tour de France climbs, including Alpe d’huez, Col de l’iseran and Cormet de Roseland, as well as Giro d’Italia routes which include the Stelvio Pass, Gavia Pass and Mortirolo.

    I cycle with a great bunch of guys and of course we’re competitive – there’s a great deal of banter that helps get us up these mountains!
    I find each ride completely exhilarating and can actually get quite emotional when I realise what we’ve achieved by completing each one.

    I definitely believe there’s an overlap with work in that I return feeling completely refreshed and ready to tackle just about any challenge.
    A hobby such as this helps to keep both mind and body active and I’m looking forward to tackling more new routes – both the French Pyrenees and Spanish Sierra Nevada mountains are on the list – in the near future.
