After all that indulgence, why not take a romantic stroll along Cardiff Bay at the southern end of the city. Once a heavily industrialised port and the export route for Welsh coal, Cardiff Bay has been spectacularly regenerated and is now one of the city’s hippest neighbourhoods.

There’s an international sports village in the bay for fit active types and culture vultures will love the Wales Millennium Centre and the National Assembly for Wales. Speaking of strolling, try Penarth Pier, in the nearby town of Penarth.

It’s home to one of the last remaining Victorian piers in the UK. Here you’ll find an independent cinema playing eclectic films, cool cafes and a traditional fish and chip shop.

If your idea of romance is great food and drink then combine the two with an alternative afternoon tea at The Park Plaza Hotel, Cardiff. They’re teamed up with iconic gin maker Hendrick’s to offer an afternoon tea inspired by botanicals, gin drinking and cocktails.

If you like cocktails then you must head for The Dead Canary, described as Cardiff’s must-visit secret bar, where the bar staff strive to be masters of mixology.

TDC has a cool, speak-easy vibe and they run cocktail making masterclasses which are perfect for his and hers fun on Valentine’s Day. 029 2023 1263

Nobody does romance quite like the Italians and at Café Citta you have to book well in advance to secure a table. This tiny trattoria has a big reputation and there is a major buzz about the place. Enjoy traditional woodfired pizza, sumptuous pasta dishes and fine wines.
