THREE managers from Sleeperz Hotel Newcastle completed the ‘world’s happiest 5k run’ last month to raise funds for the North of England Children’s Cancer Research Fund.
General manager Mark Armstrong, sales manager Deborah Parkinson and financial controller Carol Campbell all took on the quirky challenge of the Colour Obstacle Rush at Newcastle Racecourse to raise funds for NECCR.
The trio ran 5km while being showered with coloured powder, navigated 20 different obstacles – most of them bouncy and inflatable – and partied in the event’s music zones.
Mark, said: “I’ve run a lot of half and full marathons, but this was something else. It was a crazy, wacky, weird run but we loved it and are delighted to have raised funds for a brilliant regional charity.
It did take days for all of the coloured powder to leave my beard, so goodness knows what our hotel guests made of me for days afterwards.”
Mark, Deborah and Carol raised over £511.20 for NECCR, which has been matched by Sleeperz Hotels Ltd, giving Mark, Carol and Deborah a grand total of £1022.40.

30 Million Reasons why NECCR deserves our help
The North of England Children’s Cancer Research Fund is a North East children’s charity formed in 1979 by a small group of parents whose lives had been changed forever by childhood cancer.
Some parents had lost children, while others were grateful that their children had overcome disease.
In the past 30 years, NECCR has raised over £30m to fund and support research into the prevention and cure of childhood cancer.
That’s a truly remarkable achievement and inspired the team at Sleeperz Newcastle to do something to help this great organisation.
