Sleeperz Hotel Dundee named best in Scotland

Sleeperz Hotel Dundee wins Scotish Hospitality Award

The popping of champagne corks is an everyday thing in hotels.

People love to get away and celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, divorces, lottery wins or just the fact it’s Friday.

Last night, the team from Sleeperz Hotel Dundee got to pop a cork or two themselves after winning the City Budget Hotel of the Year at the Scottish Hospitality Awards 2019.

It’s just over a year since we started taking bookings at our newest and only Sleeperz Hotel in Scotland.

Fast forward 12 months and the general public, plus a panel of experienced hospitality professionals, have named us the best at what we do; ahead of big brands in Edinburgh and Glasgow including Motel One, Premier Inn, Travelodge and Holiday Inn Express.

It’s been an amazing year for Sleeperz Hotels and this success is a major reward for a lot of hard working people.

Our General Manager Manny Baber and members of his team picked up the award at a gala dinner and awards ceremony held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow.

The award judges recognised the hotel’s popularity with the public – based on great reviews on TripAdvisor and – and the company’s commitment to paying staff the higher living wage.

What really made an impact was the selfless work our employees have put into successful charity fundraising and community engagement in Dundee and Tayside

All the staff at Sleeperz Hotel Dundee have bought into our vision to enrich the places and lives of people where we do business.

They chose Marie Curie as their official charity partner in 2019 and run a left-luggage scheme which contributes proceeds to food banks in the Dundee area run by The Trussell Trust.

When we opened the hotel we signed to up an incredible cancer fundraising initiative called Maggie’s Penguin Parade which provides end-of-life care at Dundee’s Ninewells Hospital. Our Maggie’s Penguin stands proudly outside the hotel and attracts the interest of passers-by every day.

Last Christmas, staff at Sleeperz Dundee got together and decided to pass on a workplace Secret Santa and instead buy presents who were spending Xmas in hospital at NineWells Dundee.

That’s the kind of stuff that sets a team and an organisation apart and we’re thrilled that our people are getting the recognition they deserve.

All this starts at the top, with the right leadership and GM Manny Baber has been busy representing Sleeperz Hotels and giving back to Dundee, a city that has welcomed our brand of hospitality with open arms.

Manny Baber is a leader in a number of local employability programs run by Dundee City Council that provide opportunities to work in hospitality for those in long term unemployment.

He’s given up his time to talk in schools, colleges and lead workshops about the benefits of being multi-lingual in hospitality and partnered with Barnardo’s and JobCentre Plus to offer work placements to people affected by social barriers.

When we think and act in these terms, good things happen and Sleeperz Hotel Dundee is a great example of the ethos we are building in Cardiff, Newcastle, Edinburgh (Cityroomz Edinburgh) and now Dundee.

We’re working hard to identify sites in other great UK cities, including London, Glasgow and Manchester and will be looking to have the same kind of impact there as we have in Dundee.
