Staff at Sleeperz Hotels Dundee have sacrificed their in-house Secret Santa scheme to buy toys for sick children at the city’s Ninewells Hospital.
The entire team clubbed together to buy over 50 gifts, including toys, chocolates and books, and delivered them to the children’s ward this week.
It is the second year running that our staff have decided not to buy gifts for each other and instead contribute to a better Christmas for children spending the holidays in hospital.
The donation was organised by Kelly McDonald, food and beverage manager at Sleeperz Hotels Dundee, with support from every department in the hotel.
Kelly, from Craigie, Dundee, said: “This is the second year we’ve done this and it’s lovely to help those children that can’t celebrate Christmas at home this year.”
The 120-bed waterfront hotel opened above Dundee Railway Station in August last year and has made a determined effort to support local charities in the 18 months since opening.
Manny Baber, general manager for Sleeperz Hotel Dundee, said: “I’m so proud of the entire team. Since we opened, we’ve supported Maggie’s Penguin Parade, The Trussell Trust and abseiled 130 feet down the side of a University tower block for Marie Curie.
We believe in being a part of this city and community and making life better for those here who need help.”
A left luggage scheme at Sleeperz Hotels Dundee allows guests to donate to Marie Curie, the hotel’s chosen charity fundraising partner, which has raised more than £1300 already in 2019.
Sleeperz Hotels Dundee was recognised for its charity and community work at the 2019 Scottish Hospitality Awards when it was voted ‘Best City Budget Hotel of the Year,’ in Scotland.
